More and more people are starting to travel alone and sharing their unforgettable experiences. I mainly get inspired by these travel Instagram accounts. Take a look, their feed will blow you away. There are a lot of places to vacation solo over the world (or maybe everywhere). After traveling and explore many places alone, here I am sharing why you should travel alone for fun. A lot of merits are included in this post, so let's get right into them.
1. No Restrictions
The freedom of doing whatever you want when traveling alone feels so good. There are completely no restrictions on what you can or can't do. It's most effective if you plan accordingly day by day to make the most of your time. This way, you will able to manage to go a lot of places (like me). Sometimes, when you are traveling with others, you have to keep up with others' pace and might not be able to do all the things you want. That's why we travel alone to give ourselves enough time to do whatever we have planned for the day. I normally use Google Docs to plan. Feel free to use printable images I made for you that looks the exact same I use.
2. Challenge Your Fears
Traveling alone to a new destination can definitely make you feel overwhelmed and intimidated. But think of it as taking a break to challenge your fears. It's always a good idea to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Take a big step today and experience the world by traveling alone. Once you overcome this obstacle, I promise, you will find yourself wanting to travel solo again to many more cities, countries and all places.
3. New Food
Traveling equals the opportunity of trying new food. When I travel alone, I try to dine in local restaurants, not chains. Find somewhere to eat that is only in the city you are visiting. That creates memories of the dining experience and taste of food. You can also dress up and treat yourself going to high-end restaurants to enjoy the ambiance and food. Remember, you are traveling alone and there are a lot of places you can eat, so go somewhere that is new for you and let the fun begin!
4. Find Yourself
Might be a cliche, but it's so true. While traveling solo, all you have is endless free time. What better to do than roam around, see, hear, smell, and touch new things? You will find yourself what you like and what you don't like. You might also unexpectedly encounter something that you didn't know it existed. Who knows that might turn into your new hobby? This solo adventure you are on can bring so many valuable things in your life and what could possibly be better than that?
5. Being Independent
One of the fastest way to grow and be mature is to be independent. Start doing things on your own, even if it seems daunting at times. For me, moving over to another country at the age of 14 by myself and starting a new life in the United States was a big milestone. One of the things I want to set an example of would be packing. Packing is like trying to organize many things in a small space. Just like a puzzle. But even the smallest tasks like packing can teach you and give you a chance to figure things on your own. So next time you pack, you will use the simple tricks you have learned throughout the process without needing anyone's help. Here are some other useful travel tips.
6. Social Media Detox
When I travel alone for fun, I barely get on social media. I don't spend time browsing through hours of Facebook or Instagram. Instead, I spend my time productively doing fun and exciting things. So next time when you travel alone, see if you check on social media as often as you are at home I'd say the result will be you won't be on social media because you are too busy exploring around places and experiencing new things. It sounds funny to say this, but you will actually have more fun in real life creating memories and you won't need other people's life updates.
7. The Valuable Experience
Have you heard the famous saying, "Travel is the only thing you buy, that makes you richer"? Well, we all have to admit that this is real. For instance, when you are trying to get a job, good GPA, honors, club activities are all important. But the most important thing is the actual experience you had in the industry. Just like that, when you start traveling alone for fun, you get those unique experiences that no one can take away from you. Here's me, able to write this post from all the travel experiences I've gotten (and still learning). The things you learn from traveling solo or in general might vary but it's valuable. Then, you will find yourself getting even more curious and creative from all these knowledge you earn.
8. The Real Fun
You think if you do things alone in the public, people will stare at you or whisper something like "did she/he come here alone?" or "OMG, she/he is eating alone." But that is not the case. The truth is, no one really cares. Everyone is busy living their own lives, they are not going to pay attention to you or what you do alone. For instance, when you get your coffee from Starbucks, you see all the people getting their work done alone. Is that weird? No. Do others think those people are weird? No. Just like that, you don't have to feel awkward when doing something alone. Instead, think of it as a great opportunity that you finally have some me time. Here is a great article why successful people spend time alone. This real fun concept goes back to when you travel by yourself or simply decide to explore the city you live in.
