What No One Tells You About Living In Houston

Happy Valentine's Day! <3

Today I brought some tips you should definitely know before living in Houston! Check it out :)

1. You need a car
Houston, TX is huge! If you don't have a car, you probably won't be able to go anywhere.
You could use Uber, but then you would have to pay every time you go out;
Having a car is highly recommended.

2.
You need to make sure "rain" doesn't impact you
Houston rain is not just any rain. It's level 100. It's powerful, and it always floods (that's because the road/land structure is low).  Not to mention, if you read news, you will notice how the flood impacts people, cars, houses, homes, nature!!! Always check the weather before you leave your house!

3. You need to be used to traffic
Houston is a big city! Big city = more people. With almost everyone driving a car, traffic is always crazy. Normally, it tends to get busy on…
  • Weekdays: 5-6am, 11-1pm, 4-7pm.
  • Weekends: 7-9pm (but still not as bad as the weekdays)
  • Highways: I-10 & I-45 are the WORST, and then 610 & 59.

Things to keep in mind:
  • drivers frequently changing lanes
  • drivers cutting you
  • drivers not using their signals and just whooping into your lane

4. There's a lot of restaurants, bars, and café
If you love food, you would want to check out all the food & beverage places in Houston.
From brunch restaurants, romantic dinner restaurants to cozy café, hidden neighborhood gems, bar hopping spots, nightlife, bubble tea spots, and I think there's no better way than spending time while eating and trying out new places!

Some Useful Apps: OpenTable, Yelp & Trip Advisor

5. Rarely snows and hails but they still happen.
Since I never saw hailing before, when it hailed, I did not know what was going on!
I saw these small snowballs falling from the sky, and it partially scared me.

When I snowed, it was so pretty, but it melted easily.

6. Fickle weather.
You know, I never saw a weather that changes easily like this one.

One minute it's storming and pouring, the next minute it's bright and sunny. The third minute it gets cold again, and the fourth minute it feels good.
So, basically when you leave your house, bring cardigans & an umbrella.

7. Cowboy/Rodeo spirit is strong
  • Rodeo events: Texan culture used to be based on livestock and farming. Since then, to continue the culture, the rodeo started; this event shows off the livestock through various races or contests. The other part of rodeo involves games and food.
  • Cowboys boots: Boots used to be worn by people who worked on a ranch. Some would get spurs on them from horse riding. Nowadays, these boots are considered as fashion for most people.

And there you have it! Here are some more tips about how it's like moving to Houston.
