Who else agrees that we judge the quality of the business depends on their interior decor, or at least, it's a partial factor? It for sure is for me. When I walk in the store or a place and if the decoration is boring and dull, that aspect takes out a few points from my grading scale. Some might not return. What I am trying to say is, the same concept goes to fountains. When the city decides to add them, it's because these fountains create ambiance, add relaxation and enhance spaces. It's a great addition and has an awesome effect for all seasons. Other add-ons that matter could be plants, arts or books. In that sense, here are top 7 beautiful fountain spots in Houston, TX.
1. Mecom Fountain/Mecom Rockwell Colonnade
Both of these fountains can be found in Hermann Park. To be exact, Mecom Fountain is right across from Hotel Zaza Museum District and Mecom Rockwell Colonnade, right next to the Museum of Natural Science. As you guessed, Hermann Park is home to a lot of museums, gardens, and parks, including these fountains.
2. McGovern Centennial Gardens Fountain
You need to visit McGovern Centennial Gardens for its beauty! This scenic garden in Hermann Park is a focal attraction in Houston. I came here many times but this photo was taken on my 20th birthday. While strolling around this spacious green area, you will stumble upon sculptures and gigantic fountain. You can see Houston's downtown view on top of the fountain. Hearing the sound of splashing water from the fountain will take the edge off the heat, especially during summer in Houston. McGovern Centennial Garden is great location for gala functions, private dinner events and weddings. It also makes a great date spot, picnics and to take photos.
3. McGovern Lake
When you explore Hermann Park, you will definitely come across McGovern Lake. This large and peaceful lake is in the middle of Hermann Park, so you cannot miss it. I used to jog around this lake and it's definitely worth the visit. So disappointed I can't find a single photo or video I took here with the rainbow. McGovern Lake is a home for a lot of events and photoshoots like weddings and birthdays. I recommend you to check out the Japanese Garden right next to McGovern Lake. My opinion, compared to other cities, it's a little weak to be called "Japanese" Garden, but this small trail draws you away from the busy world. You will meet a lot of ducks, turtles, birds and other small sea animals.
4. Gus S. Wortham Fountain
Featured in 10 cool places to take photos in Buffalo Bayou Park, Gus S. Wortham Fountain is a gem along Allen Parkway. Also known as Dandelion Fountain due to the shape of the sculpture. If you are exploring around Buffalo Bayou Park, I highly recommend you to check out Dandelion Fountain because it's refreshing, peaceful and relaxing. You can park right in front of the sculpture as well.
5. Gerald D. Hines WaterWall
If you ask me about which public park in Houston has the most beautiful waterfall, I'd pick Gerald D. Hines WaterWall Park. Located across from The Williams Tower in Galleria Houston, this WaterWall will catch your attention (and you would want to check it out). With Galleria traffic and hectic weekdays, I can only imagine people being exhausted in this area - at least driving by or hearing the swoosh and splash of this WaterWall keeps us lively and feel refreshed. I recommend you go during day time for photos and evening for a quick walk around. For parking, you can park on the street around the WaterWall. Going near the waterfall, you can feel the sprinkle on your skin. So disappointed I can't find the photo I took with when I was here, but here's a photo from Houston On The Cheap.
6. Sesquicentennial Park Fountain
There are several parks in downtown Houston, but nothing is like Sesquicentennial Park Fountain. It makes quite an entrance, you cannot miss it. It's located underneath the bridge right by the Wortham Theatre Center, right after crossing the bridge. During the evening, the fountain lights up which creates romantic vibes and a great date spot!
7. Cullen Fountain and Reflection Pool
As you all know, I graduated from UH with a bachelor's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. My favorite place to walk around in UH was this Cullen Fountain and reflection pool. This fountain is located right in the center of the campus and it's so beautiful. This fountain is an iconic place in Houston to take photos for graduation, wedding, or any special events. Not only campus students but visitors come here to chill by the reflection pool or read books on a beautiful sunny day.
