You guys, I can't believe it's already March!
I am starting "Monthly Favorites" series since I am always trying new places and I want to share them all with you! I feel like Houston has endless food & drinks which makes me more excited to see what's there to eat next!!
All photos are taken by me :)
Without further ado, here are my 6 favorites.
1. Tasty Ko
A new Korean restaurant in Katy area.
The place is clean and pretty big. Since it just opened, I could tell the staffs were short. They only had two servers when there were almost 10 big groups of customers. The structure of the restaurant is mainly for groups since they have more booths and tables than for two people. I thought the table was a bit small for group seating since there weren't any space to freely move our legs or arms.
With the short staff, the waiting time was very long. It was obvious that other customers who came after us were complaining and asking what was wrong. For me, though, the food made up for it. Food was actually delicious and better than other Korean restaurants in Houston. I think if they hire more servers, their customer service/waiting time wouldn't be a big problem.
2. North Italia
A brunch place in Galleria area.
It was very packed when we got there. I think the reason it looked more packed was because of the structure of seating. They had full-sized bar right next to the entrance & a lot of high and low tables surrounded. It wasn't too uncomfortable since we set at the group table (aside from the two seatings).
We ordered coffee, mimosa, and some food. Mimosa was just same as other places, nothing too special. Again, with a lot of people the service was slow; however, they apologized and offered us complimentary pastries which I think was a good service. I ordered french toast which was sweet and delicious. My friends' meal were good but super salty!
If I return to this place next time, I will make sure to let them know not to put too much salt in my food :)
3. Torchy's Tacos
OMG, this place is bomb. Funny but I always thought tacos were all like taco bell's... fried & heavy! But this place wasn't anything like that! I went to the one in Rice Village. You can park right in the front which is metered, or just park in the garage (up to 2 hours is free!). There was a line since it was dinner time, but it shortened fast which wasn't a problem.
There were a lot to choose from, I got the "Trailer Park" with the sauce. It was so good. I loved how the taco wasn't fried but soft and the portion was small. The fried chicken that goes in this "Trailer Park" taco was really delicious I want to go back! Below are the chips, & the cheese went great with the chips too.
They both have outdoors and indoor seating, and I think this is a great place to just chill with friends! Food comes out fast as well which is a bonus!
4. 13 Celcius
A small and cozy bar in midtown!
Don't judge the place by it's building! The place seems worn down and old, but once you go in, it's just their old-fashioned style. They have private lot at the back or sometimes when it's full, you have to street park.
All of the servers here are friendly; they are also knowledgable on different wines and cheese plates that go with it. I actually forgot which wine we got, but it was one that the server recommended, and we ended up drinking the whole bottle since it was very smooth and bubbly! The cheese plates we ordered were great. Random, but their bathrooms are clean! Definitely a great place to catch up with friends!
5. Cru Wine Bar
Another cozy restaurant & bar in River Oaks district.
They have a huge selection of wine to choose from, and you can always ask them if you are not sure!
But what I really want to share is their pizza! It's stone-fired pizza, very fresh, and very delicious! The top one is the Margherita which has cheese, tomato sauce and basil. The bottom one is Cru Steak which has beef tenderloin, mixed greens, and balsamic. The steak pizza, which I never tried before, was went over my expectations. I definitely want to go back since their pizza is just that good! You should try it too. They also have cheese plates, steak, soups & salads!
6. Cafe Brasil
A casual lunch place in midtown!
I actually went this place with my coworkers since I work around the area.
As you can see, we all ordered different things, I got the grilled chicken sandwich with fries. I should've gotten the sweet potato fries though. Sweet potato fries are actually better!
When we went there, the server seemed not professional. It wasn't that bothering since you order upfront and they just bring you the food. But I just felt like he wasn't serious on his shift.
Anyways, food is great. We sat outside since the inside was a bit freezing. The place is clean and large, I'd say it's a comfortable neighborhood lunch place. For parking, you have to street park.
So that's my 6 February Favorites!
